Health Concerns Force Rescheduling of Blues Traveler / G. Love & Special Sauce Summer Tour

Blues Traveler leader John Popper announced a critical heath issue via Facebook yesterday that will force the rescheduling of a significant portion of their summer tour which features the Wallflowers and G. Love & Special Sauce.  Mr. Popper, who apparently needs immediate surgery on his neck for “collapsed” and “deformed” vertebrae, is expecting to return to the tour August 24.  “I will be up&running&back on tour by8/24 . . . (sic)“ was included in a post to his personal Facebook page Thursday evening.

The crisis is forcing a rescheduling of the first two weeks of the package tour that was due to start tomorrow at Ribfest in Mankato Minnesota.  Cancelations-pending-rescheduling are indicated across the midwest to Philadelphia on the 21st, according to the Blues Traveler website.

“Of course we’re disappointed to have to postpone these dates, but we sincerely wish John the best of luck in his surgery and a speedy recovery” said G. Love when reached for comment.  Special Sauce bassist Jim Prescott said, “We’re gonna rock the Ribfest tomorrow in Minnesota anyway, I heard Big Head Todd is filling in for them, so that will be cool.  But we’re psyched to get out and rock it with the Traveler once John is back up and healthy in a couple weeks.”

While Special Sauce has had to reschedule an ancillary gig at the Duck Room in St. Louis, they are looking forward to performing with Jimmy Buffet in Atlantic City on August 13th as scheduled.
